Candi Sari Yogyakarta

Sari temple was probably built in the 8th century during the reign Panangkaran. This temple is said to have links with Kalasan as stated in Kalasan inscription dated 778 AD.

It is quoted on the inscription that this temple was built and used as a monastery for monks. Components, interior and structure of the temple shows that Sari temple serves as a monastery. The temple was first discovered in the early 20th century and began the first restoration in the years 1929-1930.

Sari temple is situated in the hamlet Bendan, Village Tirtamartani, Kalasan, Sleman, Yogyakarta. It is about 10 Km from Yogyakarta or about 0.5 Km from Kalasan.
  • What to see and do
Sari temple has a height of 17 meters, 17.3 meters long and 10 meters wide. It is estimated that this temple originally had two or three floors. This argument is evidenced by the open portion in the inner wall is used to place a wooden block. The upper floor was used as storage for religious items.   • Route to Candi Sari:
By public transportation: Take the public bus service Yogya -Solo of Jackie and stopped at the side of the road. Continue with the motorcycle (motorbike taxi) to get to the temple.
